Memory Text: “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments” (Deu 7:9, NIV).
God’s law is a safe, firm path through the treacherous swamp of human existence. We can never go astray when we abide by God’s word.
What was the purpose of Israel’s election?
Israel was elected to be the vehicle by which redemption was to be made known to the rest of the world
Does the church have the same purpose as Israel?
Yes we do, the church is to make known the message of redemption to others who do not know about it
Does the covenant have boundaries and if yes what makes the boundaries?
The covenant and the law cannot be separated, the law is an integral part of the covenant and just as any relationship cannot last with rules and laws binding them, the covenant also comes with laws.
Why did God provide so much instructions for Israel?
The covenant relationship would require a change in lifestyle different from that of the rest of the others, this lifestyle will lead them to receive the promise of the covenant.
What is the purpose of the law if it is doesn’t save us?
The purpose of the law is to determine out duty to God and to humanity. It also brings the believer in harmony with God as the law is the character of God
What is the importance of obedience in the covenant and why is it a choice?
Obedience as emphasized is not to earn blessings rather it is an environment through which the blessings can be made manifest. However, it is our choice to accept this free gift by believing and obeying. The choice makes God just in that He does not force us to obey Him. Obeying God freely by choice shows true love for God and His promises.
God’s covenant is a covenant of grace, however the law makes it possible for the promises of grace to act because it shows we have accepted the grace give to Us. I pray that we understand the concept of grace and keep to the boundaries of the covenant we have with God in Jesus’ name.
