Lesson 7 Review: Law and Grace

Introduction

Memory Text: ” ‘I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain’ ” (Galatians 2:21, NKJV).

We have all violated the law. we cannot be saved by keeping the law, but by grace, we all shall be saved who believe that is the essence of Jesus’ death on the cross.

What evidence is there to show that there are laws even in heaven?

Lucifer was cast out of heaven because iniquity was found in him, so it means that there are things done in heaven that are termed as iniquity and other things termed as good.

Why is it crucial for us to obey God’s law despite the grace we are given?

The grace of God is available because of God’s love and if we love God for giving us this grace we are to show it by keeping His commandments, ‘If You Love Me, keep my commandments’ (John 14:15, NKJV).

How did God feel towards His people even after their sin?

He felt love for them and that’s why He gave them the law for their own good (Letov Lak). This law serves to protect them from falling into evil that would destroy them. Obedience to the law was for their own good.

What does the Seventh-Day Sabbath symbolize?

It is a symbol of God’s creation and redemption. Because God created the Earth in six days and rested the seventh day, He commands us to rest on the seventh day and because He redeemed the Israelites from the bondage of Egypt, He commands them to keep the Sabbath day.

Why is it not for your righteousness that you are saved?

It is not for our righteousness that we get the salvation we have from God. Deuteronomy 9:1-6 helps us to understand that it was not for the sake of Israel that they were to enter the promised Land but because the people of the promised Land were evil and Israel was stiff-necked. The promise had already been given even before we were created so it is not because of what we did, our works should only be the result.

In Conclusion,

Law and Grace have been mentioned many times in Deuteronomy, the law in Deuteronomy was not just a way to convict the Israelites rather it is for their own good. However, the grace that comes from God is not as a result of their keeping the law rather as a result of God’s love. I pray that we show that we love God by keeping His commandments the way we are supposed to in Jesus’ name.
