Lesson 5 Review: Noble Prince of Peace

Introduction

Memory Text: For unto us a Child is born, unto Us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6, NKJV).

Peace is a very good condition. The world seeks this peace but despite all efforts, the peace they try to achieve only lasts for a short time. To the world, peace is an elusive dream. Only God can give Us true, and everlasting peace as we will see in this lesson.

Was there going to be deliverance for Galilee?

Yes, there would be deliverance. Isaiah 9:1 begins with nevertheless/but, to show the start of a contrast to the punishment set for Israel. This deliverance was to begin in Galilee.

Whom does God use to deliver His people?

The prophecy in Isaiah 9:6, 7 indicates that God would produce someone who will deliver His people.

How does this all play out in the new testament?

We see that Jesus was the One to deliver His people, His ministry started in Galilee just as Isaiah singled out the Galileans to be the first to receive deliverance. This Lord mixes images from one era in another and that is what goes on Here, another example is the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD and the destruction at the end of the world.

What is special about the third mention of a child recorded in Isaiah 9: 6, 7?

This child is described as wonderful (Judges 13: 18), divine, King of the dynasty of David, He is the Eternal Creator and His Kingdom is eternal.

Who do all these attributes fit?

This attribute fits no other but Jesus, the Divine Son and Creator, born to deliver Us from our sins.

Why does God punish His people in stages rather than at once?

God punished them in stages in patience, so no One perishes but all come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9)

Why does God give us the power of free will?

It is in free will (freedom of choice) that God can know those who truly love Him because, in freedom, there are options to go against God.

What is the idea behind the shoot that comes out of the stump of Jesse?

The stump comes from a felled tree and this indicates that the Dynasty of David, son of Jesse will lose its power but there would arise a branch/shoot from the apparently doomed stump.

How does this New Ruler intend to reverse the effects of sin and apostasy?

He will think and act in harmony with the Lord, judge fairly, punish the wicked, and bring peace. He is leadership will be much greater than that of David who led the Israelites to fight the philistines, and restore peace. Jesus will restore peace to even the whole of creation itself.

Is the prophecy here by Prophet Isaiah referring to just the 1st coming, 2nd or both?

It refers to both the first and second coming because the plan of salvation and deliverance will require both comings.

Who is the only One to give Us true comfort?

Only Jesus can, only Jesus can save Us, and give Us peace. Isaiah in Isaiah 12 gives praise to God for He comforts Him and Revelation 15:2-4 talks about the restoration of peace by the King of the Saints, Jesus.

What is the significance of the idea contained in the name of Jesus?

Jesus means ‘The Lord is my Salvation’. This signifies that Jesus is not just the One to save Us He is the salvation of Himself, not only did He do miracles but He became flesh and lived among Us, not only did He bear our sins but He became sin for Us, not only did He make peace but He is our peace. He is the only One capable of delivering Us because He is salvation. IF He is lifted up, men will be drawn, He is the signal to the peoples.

In Conclusion,

This prophecy of hope prophesied by Prophet Isaiah that was coming up to Israel as a result of national apostasy finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus, whose name means The Lord is my Salvation. He is the only One who perfectly meets the conditions necessary for Man’s salvation. We only have to believe in Jesus for this salvation to work for Us, I pray that God makes Us beneficiaries of this salvation in Jesus’ name.
