Lesson 3 Review: The Promised Son

Lesson 3 The Promised Son

Introduction

Memory Text: “But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:2, 3, NIV).

The promised son was announced to Adam and Eve, Abraham and David before the Promise Son’s arrival but what they did not imagine was that their Redeemer Son would be God Himself. Only God can save us from our sins, we cannot save ourselves because we are unworthy.

What did God promise He would do for His people in the last days?

God promised to raise up a King who would destroy the enemies of His people and attract the nations to Israel. This promise was fulfilled in Jesus, Jesus defeated Satan and through the proclamation of the gospel is attracting nations to Himself.

Why was the revelation of God superior to that of the prophets before Him?

The revelation of God was superior and still is because He is God Himself, He created all things and He is the One who rules the universe. It was possible to understand the fuller meaning of the word of God only through God Himself.

What does the Glory of God refer to?

The glory of God refers to His visible presence among His people. The presence is often associated with light or radiance. Scripture informs us of how Jesus appeared in the Transfiguration.

What position does Jesus occupy?

Jesus is the creator of heaven, earth, Jesus is also a Judge, the authority to rule, and Judge is derived from the fact that God created all things and sustains the universe. The sustaining action probably includes the idea of Guidance and governance.

What does it mean that Jesus was “begotten”?

The “begetting” of Jesus refers to the beginning of Jesus’ rule over the nations and not the beginning of His existence. It did not also mean that the Father adopted Jesus. Through the incarnation, Christ fulfilled all the covenantal promises.

In Conclusion,

In Conclusion, Jesus Christ was the promised Son and He came as a fulfillment of the covenantal promises, it was through Jesus that we could have a better understanding of God and His love. Jesus came to show us who God is and His eternal love. Jesus also gives us reasons why we should trust and obey Him, I pray that we see these reasons and put our faith in God who is willing to save us through His son in Jesus’ name.
