Lesson 11 Review: The Christian and Work

Memory Text: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV).

We see that work was there from the beginning even in a world of no sin, God gave our first parent the work of taking care of the garden. After, the fall, the scope of the work changed, work is a very vital in Christian education as we will see in the review.

How was work from the beginning?

Work as God’s idea was meant to be stress-free and We did not have to work to eat

What changed all these?

Sin changed the side of work. Man after the fall has to work from his sweat, toil to put food on his table then die.

What matters most in whatever work we are doing?

What matters in whatever work we do is glorifying God with the work. We should remember that God initiated work and we should do all to the glory of His name. Our work or job should not take the place of Go in our lives, neither should we do something that will take God far away from you.

What has God promised those who work diligently?

There are promises and blessings in the bible for those who do not slack in doing things. In Deuteronomy 16:15, God has promised to bless and increase Us in the works of our hands. This simply means that for this promise to work we must work first.

What are one of the ways we use our work to glorify God?

By using the fruits of our work to bless others, we glorify God, because touching the lives of those people will create an avenue for you to preach the word to them more easily and it also further expresses God’s love to them.

What should be our attitude to work?

We should be diligent in whatever thing, we do, doing it with all our might and doing it excellently. In Exodus 25:10-30, God makes it clear that it is not just about doing work, but what matters more is how efficiently we carry them out. Moses was a tent-maker but God gave Him directions to how his tent would look like. The directions were excellent, the materials were of optimum quality and Moses was to follow exactly as God had commanded.

How do We apply spirituality in our different work fields?

In whatever we do, the fruit of the spirit as recorded in Galatians 5:22 – 25 should always play out. We should treat everyone we render service to, with all spirituality.

How should we compartmentalize all the aspects of our life to be sure we work effectively, and also serve God effectively?

Any work that compromises with the time for God should be abandoned. We have six days in a week for all work and We should not go ahead to use the seventh-day meant for God to do our pleasure/work. We should not also let work interfere with maybe our family responsibilities.

Work was not as a curse to man, it was the ground that was cursed. So whatever our hand finds to do, we have to do it with all our might, for there is a blessing attach to everything we do especially if we do It in the right way, by not making it interfere with our spiritual life, by blessing others with the blessings gotten from our work and by doing our work effectively. I pray that God grants Us the right attitude to work so We glorify His name more in Jesus’ name.
