Memory Text: “Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance” (Heb 9:15, RSV).
The Israelite sanctuary was a shadow of the real one, which is the new covenant sanctuary. Just as Frank was realized by a passer-by simply because of the similarities He had with his brother so is the earthly sanctuary similar to that of the new covenant sanctuary.
What measures does the Lord take to build a relationship with His people?
He asks them to build Him a sanctuary that He may dwell among them, He also does not abhor them, He will be their God and they shall be His people.
What prophetic significance was there in the animal sacrifice?
The animal sacrifices were a divinely ordained means for ridding the sinner of sin and guilt. However, it pointed to the coming of the divine-human servant who will die for the sins of the world.
What role does the blood play in salvation?
Jesus’ precious blood draws us closer to God by cleansing Us from every guilt and sin.
How do we understand the new covenant from the old covenant?
What were only symbols in the old covenant became a reality in the new. Just as there was an earthly sanctuary, priesthood and ministry in the old covenant that pointed to the new, so there is a heavenly priesthood, sanctuary, ministry in the new covenant.
What role does 1 Timothy 2:5-6 put Jesus in?
Jesus stands as a representative for repentant sinners, He is the perfect righteousness that can stand in the presence of God and mediate for us. Without Jesus’ role in our lives, we have no hope of eternal life in judgment.
The New covenant sanctuary replaces the old covenant sanctuary in that Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. The old covenant was only a shadow of the real in the new covenant sanctuary. Jesus, therefore, represents us before the father in that instead of God seeing our sinfulness, He sees Christ’s perfection. This forms the basis of the new covenant. I pray that we repent from our sins so that Jesus can have the opportunity to mediate on our behalf so we can have our sins remitted in Jesus’ name.
