Memory Text: “ ‘Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD’ “ (Deuteronomy 9:7, NKJV).
Remember and forget are two verbs seen all through the bible, their meanings are opposite. God tells His people to remember the wonders of old, and His works and not to forget. The same thing applies to us today; we are to not forget how God had worked wonders in the past for us.
Why was it necessary for God to place a rainbow as a symbol of remembrance?
The rainbow was placed in the sky as a sign that God will never destroy the earth with a flood. The rainbow will not only remember us of God’s judgment on the world through the flood, but it will also remind us of God’s love and covenant to never destroy the earth with a flood.
Why was it so important that the Israelites remember the things of the past?

What was one of the ways as outlined in Deuteronomy 4:9,28 the Israelites were to use to take heed… lest they forget?
The Israelites were to teach them to their children and grandchildren.
What is the danger that mostly attends wealth and physical prosperity?
The danger of forgetting that it was the Lord that gives the power to make wealth and that led them when it was not so prosperous.
Why is it so important that we remember that we were once slaves?
There are two scenarios as illustrated in the lesson but one thing is common in both scenarios, the Israelites in Deuteronomy were being reminded that they were slaves in Egypt before God delivered them, the Gentiles were being reminded that they were once slaves to sin before the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
God wants us to remember and not to forget How He has led us in the past, nothing should cause us to forget God and His wonderful works of old, not wealth, not culture, not anything. Ultimately, we are not to forget the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for our sins, all these memories help us to realize how grateful we are to be to God seeing the amount of love He has bestowed on us. I pray that we all remember God and do not forget His goodness and love to us in Jesus’ name.
